the team at PlayersTime analysed Ahrefs’ global search volume data for the top 100 most searched individuals worldwide

Headlines at the end of 2025 are dominated by a diverse mix of stories: escalating geopolitical tensions, alongside major pop culture moments, from the first-ever TikTok Awards to blockbuster films and viral social media trends.
To find out who has gained the most attention on the Internet in 2025, the team at PlayersTime analysed Ahrefs’ global search volume data for the top 100 most searched individuals worldwide, alongside the top 10 most-searched personalities in 20 selected countries. We examined average monthly Google searches over the past 12 months, categorising figures, local icons, and sector dominance. The full dataset used for this analysis is available via Google Drive at this link.
Data shows that Politics, Music, and Sport dominate global search interest, with current United States President Donald Trump topping the list with 15.96 million average monthly searches, or over 191.5 million searches on Google over the past year. He is followed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, with 10.9 million monthly searches, Mia Khalifa (9.76 million), and Taylor Swift (8.09 million). Notably, six of the world’s top 10 most Googled people are based in the U.S., highlighting America’s continued dominance over global digital attention.

Other highlights from the report:
- Alongside world-famous names such as Trump (15.96 million searches per month), Musk (10.97M), the rankings feature figures whose prominence is driven by recent cultural events, controversy, or digital buzz. Former adult entertainment performer Mia Khalifa ranks third globally with 8.76 million monthly searches, outperforming many political leaders, while global pop star Taylor Swift follows with 8.09 million, propelled by her massive fanbase and the release of her new album The Life of a Showgirl, which shattered streaming and sales records worldwide.
- Entertainment sectors such as Film & TV and Music boast the highest number of searched individuals, at 36% and 28%, respectively, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the global top 100, while at the same time, the single most searched individuals come from Politics and Business. The most searched figure in film is Sydney Sweeney, Music is led by Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter, and in Fashion, Bianca Censori commands the spotlight.
- Global fame is heavily skewed toward English-speaking countries. Americans account for an astonishing 62% of the world’s 100 most Googled people, followed by Brits with 10% and Canadians with 6%. When combined with Australians, English-speaking nationalities represent over three-quarters of the global top 100, despite making up a small fraction of the world’s population.
- Although athletes represent just 16% of the global top 100, they consistently rank among those with the highest individual search volumes. Football legends like Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo (7.76М), who takes 5th place in the global top 10 most Googled people, Argentina’s Lionel Messi (2.43М), France’s Kylian Mbappe (2.12М), and emerging stars such as 18-year-old Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal (5.76М) demonstrate that sports fame is exceptionally intense, driven by deeply loyal fanbases.
- Search interest varies by country: political leaders dominate in the US (Donald Trump, 4.94М), Germany (Friedrich Merz, 697К), Romania (Nicușor Dan, 248К), and South Korea (Lee Jae-myung, 332К). Sports figures lead elsewhere, tennis stars top Spain (Carlos Alcaraz, 1.85М) and Italy (Jannik Sinner, 1.83М), while football dominates Brazil (João Fonseca, 922К). The UK is an outlier, where adult entertainer Bonnie Blue (578К) leads national searches, ahead of royals, politicians, and musicians.
‘The world’s most Googled people in 2025 show that virality now rivals traditional fame. While established figures still lead, controversy and unexpected viral moments, often rooted in fashion, internet culture, or true-crime stories, are increasingly pushing new names into global search rankings. In a media landscape shaped by short clips and social platforms, brief moments can generate search spikes that rival years of career-building. Together, the data suggests that attention today is driven less by longevity and more by the ability to capture the cultural moment.’ – comments Silvana Vladimirova, data analyst at PlayersTime.
