with the release of a ‘capture all’ anthology

… and you’re invited to the launch on March 28.
The event and road travelled thus far are a beautiful and interesting story of longevity and currency in Melbourne’s arts scene.
- particularly the second iteration of an anthology
- of poets connected to the Millennium Poets scene in the late 90s
- in and around Fitzroy
- and the effort to bring them together again to release a book of their current works
- revive the original volume
- and launch the new book at the hotel where it all originally started.
Joel has spent the past year researching the original anthology. Rare copy in hand, he contacted the original poets involved, many of whom continue to write and practice their art in Melbourne.
Joel then set about working with the poets to assemble an anthology of their current works, as well as reformatting their original book so they can be put in libraries for posterity.
The Empress Hotel, in Fitzroy, was the place where the original readings occurred and the first anthology was born. Joel and the team are extremely happy they accepted their invitation to host the launch of the new one.
The new anthology includes the additional dimension of including a new generation of poets, particularly the children of the original writers who are also poets, as part of a generational connection and passing on the torch of creativity. This is a very touching aspect of the book and speaks to its importance in terms of continuity and growth.

By permission, the anthology also includes the works of larger-than-life artists connected to the scene such as Grant Alexander McCracken and Anthony James Day (later known as the Hobart Dancing Man) who are no longer with us but whose character and memory continues to resonate.
