Not wanting to take anything away from World AIDS Day on the 1st of December, I decided to release the Christmas edition of Q Magazine a tad early. I hope you enjoy it.

Gay pop star and media personality On Mekahel is making spirits bright and a little bit naughty with the release of his new holiday album, A Hoe-y Christmas.

This isn’t your grandmother’s carol collection. Instead, Mekahel serves up a joyful, sexy, and unapologetically queer celebration of the season, blending playful originals with fresh takes on holiday classics. From “Hoe-y Night” to his soulful spin on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” each track radiates warmth, humor, and a
wink at tradition.

“I wanted to create an experience for people who love the holidays but want something a little different,” Mekahel says. “These songs still have that cozy holiday feeling, but with a sexy twist to keep things interesting.”

One of the album’s standout moments is his cheeky remake of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” reimagined as “Hark! The Herald Who?” Growing up in Israel, Mekahel says he was always curious about “Harold” and why he was singing with angels. That playful curiosity perfectly captures the spirit of the record: holiday fun done Mekahel-style. And it’s not all camp and sass. The album’s romantic heart, “Under the Blanket,” written by Mekahel’s husband and creative partner Dave, captures the cozy intimacy of snowy escapes, fireplaces, and cuddles with their pups. “It’s exactly where I want to be during the holidays: with Dave under the blanket,” he shares.

For Mekahel, A Hoe-y Christmas is more than just festive tunes. It’s a celebration of queer joy, chosen family, and making the holidays your own. “Growing up, we didn’t celebrate Christmas in Israel, but I always loved the lights and decorations. Meeting Dave made Christmas magical, and I wanted to share that warmth with everyone,” he says.

So, whether you’re naughty, nice, or somewhere gloriously in between, A Hoe-y Christmas is the holiday soundtrack that’s equal parts heart, humor, and unabashed queer cheer.
